Isabelle Choi, Korean Teacher
Isabelle is a native Korean speaker. She was born and raised in South Korea, and educated in Canada. She graduated from Capilano University in North Vancouver, British Columbia.
She is enthusiastic and devoted Korean language teacher. She has taught many students including adults, teenagers, children, foreigners and 2nd generations Koreans over the years. She has 13 years of teaching experience and 11 years of teaching Korean experience. She has worked as a Korean language teacher for adults at the My Language Connect for 10 years and 1 year at the International House Vancouver. She has also worked as a teacher for children at JEI Leaning. She also worked at the Greater Vancouver Korean School for children. With her diverse work experience and strong cultural understanding, her goal is for her students to learn and be able to use the language. She wrote Korean language book Speak Korean Today! Beginner Korean 1 ~ 5 which students can learn beginner Korean in a step-by- step process. She has a lot of love for teaching and would like to help students learn Korean using communicative approach.
Chiemi Fuse, Japanese Teacher
Chiemi is a native Japanese speaker. She was born and grew up in Japan. She has studied and graduated Bachelor of General Studies and Minor in Early Childhood Education at Simon Fraser University. She has taught Japanese language to adult for 10 years at My Langauge Connect. She had also taught English in Japan
and Japanese language in Vancouver for several years previously. Chiemi's strength is helping students learn and acquire Japanese langauge with a good understanding of Japanese culture, people, and langauge usage. She teaches students Japanese for letting them be able to speak the language as natural and authentic as possible in addition to basic grammatical linguistic aspects.
Sydney Lin, Mandarin Teacher
Sydney is a native Mandarin speaker who grew up in Taiwan and later moved to Canada as a teen. She is currently a 4th year student at the University of British Columbia.
She has experience teaching Mandarin in a one-on-one setting, as well as other subjects in a classroom. Sydney’s main goal as a Mandarin teacher is to provide fun, personalized, and engaging lessons for her students where they feel comfortable. She is looking forward to being a part of your learning journey!
Victor Bernovsky, French & ESL Teacher
Victor is a native English, French and Russian speaker who is also fluent in Spanish. He has over 15 years of language teaching experience. He is originally from Montréal, Québec and has worked in many different locations in Canada and Europe, where he has taught students of all ages, levels and backgrounds. He has also taught countless one-on-one classes to adults and teens, both in-person and online. Most notably, he worked as an Associate Professor of French at IE University in Segovia, Spain from 2015 to 2016. He also worked at the Elite Educational Institute in Burnaby from 2017-2018, where he taught classes focused on English and French language, reading and writing for kids and teens. More recently, he taught Spanish as a foreign language at the University of Gibraltar, UK in 2019. He holds a Ph.D. in French literature from Paul-Valéry University in Montpellier, France and a M.A. in French from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. Currently, he is the publication manager of a volume on the literature of New France: France’s first colonial empire. It will contain 27 articles written by North American and European scholars and specialists in literature, history, sociology, anthropology and film. Publication is forthcoming by the end of 2022.
He is a highly dedicated teacher whose goal is to make sure his students fully realize their potential. One of his main motivations as a teacher is that by breaking down the language barrier, cultural differences are overcome, which is one step closer to a more inclusive world. By speaking someone’s language, you learn about the individual, his/her culture and way of thinking.
Sandra Canchig, Spanish Teacher
Sandra is a native Spanish speaker. She was born and raised in Ecuador. Sandra has a diploma in teaching Spanish as a second language from IE Institute. She also has a bachelor degree in Hotel Management with a particular focus in tourism. She has taught students from all over the world with different ages and levels at several language schools such as Verbling, 121Spanish and Ecuspanish school. She has helped them with Spanish for business, medical, academic, job interviews, conversation classes and many other. She not only introduces her students to a new language but also to a new culture. Having lived and worked abroad, she has a rich understanding of people & cultures and have excellent communication skills. She is highly motivated and flexible. In her free time, she enjoys photography, travelling, and reading. She teaches classes in Vancouver or Coquitlam.
Sonia Leon, Spanish Teacher
Sonia is a Mexican native speaker, she was born in Mexico City. She is
a professional Spanish language teacher and tutor specialized in teaching
Spanish as a foreign language. She has experience in working with clients
and students of different nationalities.
She is patient, tactful and kind, with good sense of humour.
She brings to class new and innovative teaching methods and resources
through role play, games and problem-solving activities.
On each class she works with he elaboration of didactic material, short
stories in a wide range of situations, using her experience and knowledge
creating personalized lessons which specially address the needs and levels of
the course and of the student goal.
