Korean Group Class - Level 2 High Beginner

I started in Jan 2019 when a friend of mine recommended this course to me because of her positive experience with the Beginner Level Class. I had some background of understanding Korean but I was looking to learning the correct language and grammar systematically. Over the past months, I have not only learned the origin of the language structure but also many cultural connections with other Asian languages that I have found to be very interesting.

The classes are highly engaging and sociable. When we make mistakes Isabelle responds with informative feedback. We share many fun moments, often cracking up and lanughing out loud because of the strange scenarios we come up with during sentence making activities. Overall a stress-free but very educational learning environment!

Highly recommend the class for anyone that is interested in learning Korean and Korean culture.

Spanish Group Class - Grade 10 Beginner Spanish

Fernando has been an excellent Spanish tutor and I would highly recommend him! My friend and I desperately needed help with our Grade 10 online “beginner” Spanish course which was unfortunately very fast-paced. Fernando was always well prepared for each lesson, was very professional yet personable, and always kept us on task. We managed to cover a lot of ground each 1.5 hr class. Without his help I would never have passed that course! 

Mandarin Private Class - Level 4 Intermediate

I've been taking private mandarin lessons at My Language Connect for almost a year now, and I've had a great experience: I've been taught by both Jessica and Patricia (due to a change to my schedule), and both are great teachers who helped me practice what I already knew and taught me a lot.  I started to take lessons at My Language Connect four year into studying Mandarin, so my level was already good, but having the chance to practice regularly with such competent and helpful teachers helped me improve all my skills by a lot. I would suggest everyone to give learning Mandarin at My Language Connect a shot!

Korean Group Class - Level 3 Low Intermediate

I have been taking the Korean lessons for over a year now at My Language Connect. I initially started off wanting to take up Korean is because I am interested in their culture, shows and music but since prior to learning Korean, I have picked up Japanese. Since the grammar structure is also quite similar which led me to decide to start learning. 

Isabelle has been an amazing teacher who has structured the lesson to make it engaging. Within the group season that I am at, I am able to practice speaking, reading and listening with other fellow students which would come useful later on when traveling in Korea. A lot of content that is relatable and applicable are also incorporated into our learning aside from just grammar. Isabelle is a very down to earth and caring teacher. She always shows her enthusiasm when teaching and the class never really has a dull moment. I would highly encourage people to start taking classes here at My Language Connect if you are interested in learning the language but don't know where to start!

Japanese Group Class - Level 2 High Beginner

My Language Connect has been a wonderful avenue for comprehensively learning Japanese at a steady pace. The focused class sizes have also made the interactions very personal and well-tailored to my experience level. Classes are always engaging and fun. I would highly recommend anyone to jump in and start learning with Chiemi-Sensei today.

Korean Private Class - Level 2 High Beginner

I have taken Korean lessons for the past few months with Ashley and I have learned so much. I began with very limited knowledge and now my communication has improved so much. Just in a few months I have gone from an absolute beginner to someone who is able to read, write and speak full sentences in Korean. Ashley has been an incredible teacher who I am so lucky to be able to study with. She is super patient, understanding and kind. She is always able to explain complicated concepts to me and will always work with me until I get them. I look forward to learning more from her!

I’ve never had exposure to the Korean language prior to taking classes at My Language Connect. Isabelle has made learning Korean learning accessible and fun. Classes are structured well and organized. It moves at a reasonable pace and the group learning dynamic makes learning more fun and interactive. Japanese Private Class - Level 3 Intermediate

Chiemi is a very engaging, patient and organized teacher. It’s been a year that I have had my private lessons with her. She is able to teach language as culture. The classes that I have with her are always enjoyable. She is also flexible about arranging classes that are suitable to your schedule. I highly recommend the Japanese language classes with Chiemi. 

Mandarin Group Class - Level 1 Beginner

Born in vancouver, I had many mandarin speaking friends growing up. I always wanted to learn but was hesitant of big classrooms.  Finally having the courage to take lessons I found out about my language connect. To me it was exactly what I was looking for. A more personal experience with less students in the classroom. The environment is very casual and allows me to learn something new every class. 

I thought it may be difficult at first to fit it in my schedule with my full time work but because of the smaller class sizes, figuring out a convenient class time for everyone was possible.‎ For the price they charge, it is definitely worth it with high quality education in a clean beautiful modern building. 

Also my favorite part is the free drinks! 

Mandarin Group Class - Level 1 Beginner

Hi guys, my name is Brandon. I've been taken Chinese lessons with Sophie for about the last 8 weeks and I can say it's been a blast. The class I take in particular has only two students . This has been monumental with my learning, as I feel the need to ask the many questions I have on my mind. The small class setting has a very comfortable atmosphere to it. Not only does Sophie answer them with respect (as I'm sure some of the questions are redundant), she's great at breaking it down into something easy to grasp. Korean Group Class - Level 4 High Intermediate

In order to better communicate with my in laws who are korean, I started taking korean class from Isabelle about 2 years ago.  It was fun and interesting at first, but got a lot more complicated later on.  Thanks to Isabelle's support and patience with me, I have managed to get through the challenges and have successfully moved up to high intermediate level. My commitment sure counts, but it would not be the same without Isabelle's help. Thank you so much Isabelle. I will continue learning korean from you until I master the language one day!

Korean Group Class - Level 3 Low Intermediate

I've been learning Korean for over 2 years now. The reason I started learning Korean was because my love for K-Pop, K-drama, Korean make-up, culture and pretty much anything that's Korean related. I wanted to watch a drama without needing to wait for the subs to come out. I wanted to know what's written on the make-up package. Most importantly, I wanted to communicate with my Korean friends using their language. 

I look forward going to class every week. Isabelle is an amazing teacher!! The small group class allows us to have more interaction with the teacher and students. Class wasn't just listening to the teacher going on and on for 2 hours about topics that is irrelevant to us and will never get to use. We get to practice speaking, listening, reading and writing about topics that we will encounter every day. All the material taught are VERY useful in real life. Role playing with fellow classmates was one of the activities I really enjoy. It allows us to prepare for real life situations like ordering food, shopping at a store, chatting about what we did over the weekend with friends and even interviews at Korean companies (for those that wants to work in Korea!!!)

Class is SUPER fun, everyone is super friendly. Isabelle is more like a friend than a teacher. She would joke around with us, talk about K-Pop and K-drama just like every other fan girls out there. =P I'm so happy that I decided to learn Korean with Isabelle. Now I can watch drama without needing to look at every line in the subtitles, I know what's written on the makeup package and I am able to communicate with my Korean friends. ^^

Korean Group Class - Level 3 Low Intermediate

I have been taking Korean lessons for about two years. I love learning new languages, and am into Korean pop culture very much. It is now my second term studying with Isabella at My language Connect. She is a very engaging, patient, sociable, and organized.  If requested, she can arrange a class for you that is suitable to your level and schedule, so you can learn with other students.  Isabella often organizes student social events outside of class time that are fun to participate. It’s a great way to make new friends with people who share similar interests with you!  The school is conveniently located at the Metrotown office building. There is a lounge area next to the classroom where students can enjoy a complimentary cup of tea or coffee. My language learning experience with Isabella is very pleasant. My Language Connect is a great place for those who are interested in learning languages and cultures(this school also offers Chinese and Japanese language courses).

Korean Group Class - Level 2 High Beginner

안녕하세요여러분! My name is Yuliya and I have been learning Korean for a little over a year. Although the reason I started to learn was solely because of my work requirements (as I was planning to travel to Korea and thought that at least knowing how to read would be beneficial), I soon realized that it has become more of a hobby. Even after my work plans changed, I still diligently and enthusiastically continued attending every class.

With every lesson I took, I learned a great deal about amazing Korean culture and entertainment, history and people. I’ve entered a completely unique and amazing world of KOREA. I started watching Korean Dramas and listened to Korean music. I tried kimchi along with other delicious Korean food. My favourite part about knowing Korean is to surprise native speakers when I interact with them. Their “WHOA… this white girl can speak my language” facial expression is priceless. (Call me weird, but I live for those moments. I am working super hard to perfect my pronunciation and to add to my vocabulary to shock them even more…FUN).

Our 선생님, Isabelle, is amazing too. She makes classes fun and easy to comprehend. They are a good mixture between grammar, listening, new vocabulary, speaking, and writing. Since the class sizes are so small, there is always individual attention on you as a learner. AND during the breaks we get free coffee or latte or mochas or whatever you want! Who doesn’t like free stuff? :p The two-hours of class every week fly by quickly as they are filled with laughter, learning, and new friends. You meet a lot of fantastic people who not only go with you to Korean BBQs, but also sing at karaoke together.

SO…some may ask why should I learn Korean? Well… the answer is easy. Learn it because it is super-duper FUN. Learn it because it makes you happy. OR because you become familiar with who Kim Soo Hyun, or Song Joong Ki, or Lee Min Ho, or Choi Si Won, or Go Soo, or Kim Bum or (my favourite) Song Seung Hun is <3 So then when you meet these오빠s in your dream, you just want to have a conversation with them using their beautiful Korean language.

Korean Group Class - Level 2 High Beginner

I've been asked many times why I am learning Korean. For me, it started as an interest in the language and culture. E very class we have a great time. As I write this, I reminisce moments of pure joy we had in the class (laughing to the point of tears). We often make mistakes in class, but the everyone is supportive and encouraging. Our teacher Isabelle is experienced and has adopted class material towards the students interests and learning abilities. I visited Korea earlier this year. I can testify that a basic understanding of the culture and language helps several ways. Just to name a few: navigation, reading the menu, making local Korean friends, etiquette. I highly encourage anyone going to Korea to take classes as it enhances your experience.

Hello my name is Jacob Gagnon. I first became interested in korean when I was doing a TESL program to become an English Teacher. When I was teaching I had coworkers and 3 of them happened to be korean. I met koreans for the first time and that is when I discovered that I really liked the language. My new friends started teaching me a bit of their language, introducing their culture and music to me. I realized that I really liked korean and I wanted to go to Korea and teach english over there one day. I have been learning Korean with Isabelle for a little over a year and I find myself improving with each class. I fell in love with K-pop and Korean dramas and wanted to learn the language and about Korean culture. Isabelle's classes are a lot of fun because she encourages you to speak to your classmates and develop new friendships. I really appreciate her patience (especially in the beginning - when I had a tough time putting together a simple sentence). If I was struggling, she would take the time to explain the concept again and provide lots of examples. I have always wondered if learning Korean would be easy to do. And so after learning at this school as it was a definitely a good choice. Learning a new language may not be easy, however with Isabelle it was easier than expected. If you ever have trouble at a certain point she will not hesitate help out. I’ve been studying Korean with Isabelle for near 8 months now, and I can’t say enough about how effective Isabelle is as a teacher. Having been an ESL teacher in Korea for 4 years myself, I am familiar with pedagogy and I can say that she applies the 4-skills model of language acquisition very effectively in her classes. Although my progress has been slow, it’s been steady, and every week I’m more capable with the language than I was the one previous. Come to her classes, genuinely apply yourself, do your homework, and mix in some self study when you can find the time — and you WILL learn Korean! Last but not least, she’s also very friendly and personable, and that’s a big plus too.

I have joined Isabelle's Korean class for almost one year and a half. It is a very fun experience to learn Korean in her class. I can meet people who are also interested in learning Korean, practice my speaking with them, and talk about Korean shows and k-pop that we like.  I tried to learn Korean myself through YouTube channel or online resources, but it was difficult to learn a new language on my own. Isabelle's teaching helps me understand Korean language much easily. Now I am happy that I can sing my favorite k-pop songs by reading Hangul.

I was a student in Isabelle's class for many levels and found the experience necessary for me to practice what I've learned or known. I have many Korean friends and love the Korean culture. I learned the 한글 and basic grammar from Internet and books but I decided to attend language school in small-class settings because it allowed me to hear and speak Korean properly.

Isabelle is a patient and effective instructor. Time goes fast during her classes and the many exercises we do really re-enforce the new knowledge taught. And you meet people from all kinds of nationality and walk of life.. I really enjoyed the time together in class.

My sisters and I fell in love with the Korean culture through K-dramas and K-pop a few years back and thought it would be so much fun to take a Korean language course together, especially since we would like to travel to Korea in the near future! We signed up for our first class seven months ago with Koreanclass.ca, and we couldn't be happier! Our teacher, Isabelle, is so amazing! She is so kind, very encouraging and extremely patient. Isabelle makes learning Korean fun - we are always laughing in class and leave each lesson with a smile. I genuinely look forward to each class! The class size is perfect as you really get that one-on-one attention, which makes learning so much easier. There are also fun out-of-class events planned every few weeks, such as dinner at Korean restaurants and karaoke, so that you can meet other students who are also learning Korean. My sisters and I decided to join Korean Class to learn Hangul. We enjoy watching Korean dramas and K-reality shows. The culture is full of history and promotes respecting elders and the young alike. I enjoy Korean music and the language is beautiful to listen to. We wanted to learn something new while spending quality time together so we enrolled into Isabelle Choi's class. I would recommend taking this class because you are getting an exceptionally gifted teacher that spends one-on-one time with each of her students. The lessons are fun and there are also dinner/karaoke outings.

Korean Skype Class - Level 2 High Beginner

I started taking online Korean classes with Isabelle in August 2014. My husband is Korean and I wanted to learn the language so I can communicate with his family who barely spoke any English. Isabelle is an amazing teacher. Not only is she accommodating with my schedule, but she's also very patient and explains things in a way that helps me understand the lessons easily. We use the books she wrote in class which are very easy to follow. It's also a huge advantage because she knows the books in and out and is able to utilize all the exercises we do in class at the right time. If you are serious in learning Korean, I highly recommend taking classes with My Language Connect.

Korean Skype Class - Level 2 High Beginner

Learning Korean was probably one of the most important decisions I’ve made. I’ve studied Korean for over a year, taking classes with Isabelle. At the time Korean seemed intimidating to me, almost frustrating to learn. However my teacher was very patient with me, teaching me when I didn’t know a single word of Korean. Through Korean I made a lot of friends and learned a lot about a culture I wasn’t familiar with too well, even playing games such as Starcraft. I never knew why I exactly I wanted to learn Korean, I just saw Korean lettering and I felt frustrated I didn’t understand it, and now it feels great being able to read Hangul, ordering food in Korean restaurants, and making Korean friends. I’m pursuing work in Korea at the moment, and Isabelle helped me realize this with her lessons. I always try to recommend her lessons and books to friends who are pursuing Korean

I have been a My Language Connect Skype student for just over a year.  I feel like I've learned so much!  Isabelle has taught me a lot and has made the learning process very enjoyable. She is very encouraging and open to questions, as well. I would highly recommend Isabelle as a teacher!

Korean Skype Class - Level 1 Low Beginner

I learned Korean from Isabelle Choi for 6 months and loved every lesson! Isabelle and I made regular dates we would Skype for my Korean lesson. If I had a test, exam or school event she help me reschedule for another date. 
Within the six months, I learned all of Hangul, basic greeting, how to ask a person their name, city, country, favorite colour, if they had a pet, etc. I could have basic conversation in Korean. Sure it wasn't perfect but Isabelle always was patient with me and would always go over things with me again and again till I got it. The textbooks used in the course where easy to understand and where hands on learning. I found them extremely helpful and use full when studying.

My Language Connect was such a fun and educational exprience and I recommend it to anyone who wants to learn a second language! I don't regret one penny I spent. Thank you Language Connect for such a great experience!  감사합니다!
